Middle school learning
Educating students in 6th through 8th grade
Starting middle school is a time of great excitement, growth and discovery. Most students look forward to middle school because it means they are growing up and gaining independence. At the same time, the transition to middle school can be a little scary. Students may be apprehensive about meeting a lot of new people, getting lost in a large school building, or having a hard time with their locker combination. We are working hard to make sure that your child feels at home when he or she joins our school next fall.

Courses in middle school
Our middle school courses support students in grades six through eight as they deepen core academic skills and explore new areas of interest. You can filter courses by grade level and subject area—including specialized options at schools like Anoka Middle School for the Arts (AMSA), which offers Fine Arts courses in place of the traditional Art options—to see what students learn throughout their middle school journey.
Students performing below grade level in reading may be assigned to additional reading support courses.

Instructional materials review
The School Board recognizes the right of district residents, parents, and guardians of district students, adult students, and district employees to examine instructional resources and the responsibility of individual parents to monitor resources selected for their children. Policy 603.0 allows parents and the community to review curriculum and instructional materials. Parents may request that specific instructional resources be excluded or restricted for their child and that the school provide reasonable alternative instruction. Parents who would like to review instructional materials and/or request alternative instruction should contact their child’s principal. The principal will coordinate with the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Department to arrange to have materials available and prepared for their review.
